Change is Brewing: 8th Annual DC Beer Week Returns September 24-October 1, 2016, with Exciting Changes

May 12, 2016 – Washington, DC – Craft beer fans have a lot of fun new things to look forward to for this year’s DC Beer Week. The 8th  Annual DC Beer Week returns to the National Capital Region this summer with a variety of educational and tasting events planned throughout the week of September 24-October 1, 2016.

The other big change is that starting in 2016, DC Beer Week will officially be planned and run by the The D.C. Brewers' Guild.  The organization, incorporated in 2014, is the region’s resource for brewers and brewery owners in the region.  Executive Director Kathy Rizzo says “The D.C. Brewers’ Guild is proud to take the reigns from our predecessors and continue the tradition of DC Beer Week.  We are looking forward to honoring D.C.'s brewing heritage and showcasing our ever-growing craft beer scene by working with our partners in the community.”  Rizzo will take the lead with fellow DCBW co-chair Lisa Cox.

The things that you can count on to stay the same? Amazing events over eight days with marquee events planned for each day.  This year DC Beer Week will span Saturday to Saturday when in years past it was Sunday to Sunday.  There will be dozens of venues in the District, Virginia and Maryland hosting a variety of events, including beer dinners, tastings, tap takeovers, and more. Restaurants, bars, breweries, and other venues interested in participating in this year’s DC Beer Week should contact Kathy Rizzo via email at  dcbeerweek@gmail.com for moreinformation.

The website and Facebook page remain the same, as well.  More information about the 8th Annual DC Beer Week will be posted at  DCbeerweek.net in the coming weeks and a release featuring the 2016 marquee events is forthcoming.  In the meantime, be sure to “Like” the DC Beer Week Facebook page (www.facebook.com/DCBeerWeek) and follow us on Twitter and Instagram (@dcbeerweek;  #DCBW2016), for the latest updates.

About DC Beer Week

Chef/beer aficionado Teddy Folkman and local distributor Jeff Wells started DC Beer Week in 2008 to celebrate the small, but enthusiastic craft beer community in the Nation’s Capital. Since then, the event has grown each year, attracting thousands – from self-proclaimed beer geeks and home brewers to the casual beer drinker. In 2015 the event included over 100 different events throughout the District and surrounding area.

About the D.C. Brewers Guild

The District of Columbia Brewers’ Guild (DCBG) exists to unify the Washington, D.C. brewing community by honoring D.C.’s brewing heritage, fostering community development & pride, educating consumers, promoting shared business interests, and encouraging sustainable growth.  More information on the guild can be found at http://www.dcbg.org.
